Lee Wilson
Associate Faculty Member
Lee is a registered Patsy Rodenburg Associate and holds Canadian, British, and Irish citizenship.
He recently played Prospero in Wishing Well Theatre’s (Fenton, Michigan, USA) production of The Tempest, directed by Karen Sheridan.
As the Founding Artistic Director of Resurgence Theatre Company in Newmarket, Ontario, he directed critically acclaimed productions of Hamlet, Twelfth Night, and Romeo and Juliet. He was nominated by his peers for the Christopher Plummer Fellowship Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the classics and Shakespeare performance in Canada (Globe Theatre in England / Globe Centre in Canada).
Lee’s Canadian work includes the inaugural Michael Langham Workshop for Classical Directors at the Stratford Festival. He served as assistant director to Des McAnuff on The Who’s Tommy and on both the film and stage productions of The Tempest starring Christopher Plummer. Additional Stratford credits include As You Like It, Measure for Measure, and The Winter’s Tale. Other credits include Apprentice Artistic Director / Artistic Associate at the Grand Theatre (London, Ontario); Intern Director at the Shaw Festival; Resident Director in the Birmingham Conservatory at the Stratford Festival; and Apprentice Artistic Director at Tarragon Theatre (Toronto).
In Dublin, Ireland, Lee has worked at Theatre@36, The New Theatre, The Project Arts Centre, Smock Alley, the O’Reilly Theatre, and The Gate Theatre / Dublin Theatre Festival, where he was Associate Director to Joe Dowling.
He began his professional career in the inaugural Soulpepper Training Company, studying under Robin Phillips.
Lee has been a guest director and professor at the University of Windsor, Toronto Metropolitan University, the University of Toronto–Erindale, the University of Waterloo, the National Theatre School of Canada, the Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design, and Technology (Dublin), and Bowling Green State University (Ohio).
He is an associate member of the Association of Drama Adjudicators (Ireland), holds an MFA in Directing from The Lir / Trinity College Dublin, and a BFA in Acting from Toronto Metropolitan University. He is also a member of the Canadian Guild of Stage Directors and Choreographers.
